The Foundation is named for Ruthie, a black and tan miniature dachshund who overcame many obstacles in her more than 20 years.

• Ruthie never took “no” for an answer.


• She lost her eyesight and learned to navigate by walking in circles.


• She overcame many episodes to acute pancreatitis.


• She overcame anaphylactic shock at age 17.


• She overcame neurologic and orthopedic problems.


• She overcame episodes of mast cell tumors at age 20.


• She still lives in the Foundation and with those who love her.
